    Occupational Therapy Process

    Step 1. Enquiry
Reach out through our website or by phone to begin. If you are an NDIS participant, we gather a few key details about your plan so we can match you with the right therapist. Our team guides you through the intake process with clear and supportive communication.

    Step 2. Home Assessment
Your Occupational Therapist visits your home or preferred location to complete a detailed assessment. This includes learning about your routines, reviewing your environment, identifying risks and exploring supports that can improve safety and independence. You talk through your goals and the challenges you experience day to day.

Step 3. Goal Setting and Therapy Planning
Your therapist helps you set meaningful goals that align with your NDIS plan or aged care program. These goals may focus on increasing your independence, improving mobility or building confidence in daily activities. A therapy plan is created to support your needs and lifestyle.

Step 4. Ongoing Therapy and Support
Your therapist delivers personalised sessions that build skills and confidence over time. This may include functional training, daily routines, cooking and safety strategies, community access and support for carers. We stay connected with your wider care team to keep your progress on track.

    Step 5. Reports and Recommendations
You receive a clear report that summarises your goals, assessment findings, therapy progress and recommendations. This report can support funding requests, plan reviews and collaboration with your care team. It provides a strong foundation for long-term independence.

  • I do not own my property. Can I still access Occupational Therapy?

Yes, you can. Most NDIS Occupational Therapy services have minimal environmental impact, so renting or living in shared accommodation is not an issue. If home modifications are required, we will liaise with your landlord or housing provider and follow all Victorian legislation and NDIS requirements to ensure the process runs smoothly.

  • How do you handle home modifications?

Your NDIS Occupational Therapist will complete an environmental and home modification assessment to identify changes that can improve safety and accessibility. This may include grab rails, ramps, step adjustments or bathroom modifications. We then prepare a professional report and Scope of Works for NDIA approval and can liaise with builders, contractors and property owners as needed. Learn more about our Home Modifications service.

  • Do I need to have equipment already, or will you organise it?

You do not need to have equipment before your appointment. Your NDIS approved Occupational Therapist will assess your needs and recommend suitable assistive technology or aids. We can arrange equipment trials, coordinate with suppliers and help with funding applications through the NDIA.

  • What reports or documentation will I receive?

After your NDIS Occupational Therapy assessment, you will receive a detailed report written in plain English. It outlines your current abilities, goals and recommendations for support or equipment. This report can be used for NDIS plan reviews, funding applications or shared with your wider care team.

  • What qualifications do your Occupational Therapists hold?

All Occupational Therapists at Total Health Choice are registered with AHPRA and complete ongoing professional development each year to maintain their registration. They are members of Occupational Therapy Australia and hold current police checks, Working with Children Checks, first aid certification and professional indemnity insurance.
