What we bring, and what we do not need you to have

The physiotherapist brings everything. There is nothing you need to buy, hire or set up before the first visit.

You do not need a referral for a private appointment. You do not need a My Aged Care assessment. You do not need a diagnosis. You do not need a treatment room, a spare bed or any equipment. We work with the chairs, the bed, the stairs and the bathroom that are already in the house, which is the point, because that is what the person has to manage every day.

What happens at a home visit

Booking it.

Our admin team books the visit and takes the details then, including anything the therapist needs to know about getting in. You get a text confirming the date and time.

The physiotherapist, or the exercise physiologist. The visit runs about an hour.

The first twenty minutes is talking, and it is about the specific things that have got hard rather than the diagnosis. Getting off the toilet. Getting out of the car. Standing up from the low sofa. Managing the step into the garden. Walking to the letterbox. Standing long enough to make a cup of tea.

Then we measure, and we document what we find, because a baseline is what makes it possible to say later whether this worked.

Timed Up and Go

Thirty second sit to stand

Four stage balance test

Walking speed over four metres

Grip strength

If they are able, whether the person can get up off the floor

We look at what is actually worn on the feet around the house, which is usually not the pair kept for visitors.

After the visit we send you a written plan and a home exercise program built around what the client can tolerate. Seated or standing exercises, near a benchtop or a chair for support, ideally five to ten minutes a few times a week. For someone who cannot follow a list, it might be two movements done with whoever is already there, printed with photographs. A program that does not get done, or does not get done safely, is worse than no program.

The occupational therapist.

The OT walks through the house with the client. Front step and path. Hallway lighting. Rugs and cords. The bathroom, the shower, the height of the toilet and what gets held onto. The bed height. What is being reached for above head height in the kitchen. And the path from the bed to the toilet at two in the morning in the dark.

After the first visit

The same physiotherapist comes back. Not a different one each time.

We re-test as we go and send a monthly progress report to the family with the outcome measures in it, so improvement is a number rather than an impression. It goes to you, to the GP, and to the Support at Home Provider if there is a Support at Home package.

If the house needs changing, an occupational therapist comes out. If the goal moves from safe to genuinely fit, an exercise physiologist does. Same team, same phone number, no starting again.

What it costs

Why this team

We ring back within thirty minutes on business days. It is the only speed commitment with an actual number on it that we have found anywhere in this market.

There are fifty of us and we have been mobile since 2011, which means when someone is on leave, another therapist can come or we reschedule for later in the week.

Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology and speech pathology from one team. Podiatry and massage therapy are both coming.

4.9 from over 200 Google reviews.

Most first visits happen within five business days. We will give you a real date on the phone rather than “we’ll be in touch”.

Every therapist who comes to the house holds a current police check and NDIS worker screening clearance. And you get the same therapist each visit, so it is not a different stranger at the door every fortnight.

Questions people ask

That is what we do. We visit around fifty seven suburbs across Melbourne’s south east and bayside, listed above with postcodes, from Prahran and St Kilda down through Bentleigh, Carnegie and Chadstone to Frankston and Cranbourne.

Ask us on the phone and we will tell you before you book. It depends on your location.

Every suburb listed above, and usually another ten kilometres or so past them. If you are further out, ring and ask rather than assuming.

No, not for a private appointment. You can ring us today and book one.

About an hour. Follow up visits usually run forty five minutes to an hour.

Yes, and independent living units, and residential aged care homes.

Ring and ask. Availability varies by suburb and by therapist, and we would rather tell you the truth on the phone than publish a promise we cannot keep in every postcode.

Same team, same phone number. You do not start again and you do not repeat the whole story.
