Total Health Choice is a holistic healthcare provider, meaning our services consider anyone who is supporting our patient to live their best life.

  • Do I need a referral to get started?

No formal referral needed. We often receive referrals from case managers, carers, providers or family members.

  • How do you tailor therapy to older adults?

We take a whole person approach — therapy is adapted to your physical goals, cognitive needs and emotional wellbeing.

  • What suburbs do you service?

We visit across Metro Melbourne, including the Western and South-Eastern suburbs. Contact us to confirm your area.

  • Do you train care staff too?

Yes! Our manual handling training is ideal for aged care and support staff. Available online or in person.

  • How has Total Health helped the community through aged care Physiotherapy?

One lovely lady we worked with was in her eighties and non-ambulant following a femur fracture. Prior to her fracture she was very fit and had stayed active, but, after a fall, her dementia progressed and her mobility was negatively affected.

We developed a plan to get her actively walking again. We first used a gutter frame and then moved to a four-wheel walker. As the sessions continued, the patient progressed. After nearly a year, she was happily doing laps of her garden and walking down the street with a carer or friend.

We prescribed exercises for her to continue with her carers and family, so that she was empowered with her own physical therapy. Her progression was very impressive and her family was very appreciative of our support – how great!

  • How are goals determined?

All of our treatment plans are individualised based on what our patients report to us during the initial consultation and our observations. We will listen to the patient’s medical history and consider this with a holistic mindset.

Our treatments are focused around short-term and long-term goals to ensure that every session has a purpose.

If a patient wants to work on their walking endurance, for example, then we will first assess their endurance by using an outcome measure such as a timed six-minute walk test to get a baseline measure.

  • Can aged care programs be combined, such as home support with group classes?

Yes. Many clients combine homebased therapy with group exercise classes to improve physical health and stay socially connected.

  • What measures are in place to ensure safety and comfort during therapy sessions?

Our therapists are all AHPRA registered and are qualified health professionals who personalise each session to your ability level, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

  • How do you monitor progress and adjust support plans over time?

At the initial assessment, we take some baseline measurements and review these quarterly to measure progress. We set functional goals to achieve each period and slowly work towards achieving these goals.

  • What makes the Function First RACF Program different from standard physiotherapy?

Our Function First RACF Program is designed specifically for aged care settings. It focuses on meaningful movement, goal-based therapy and maintaining independence, not just treatment.
